As a Lecturer in Music Education at the University of Reading, and with over 25 years’ experience teaching music across primary, secondary and higher education, he is passionate about making music accessible to everyone and supporting educators in creating meaningful musical experiences that inspire lifelong engagement.

Alongside his academic career, Mark maintains an active portfolio as a singer, violist, choral and orchestral conductor, and musical theatre director and musical director. He is the founder and Principal Conductor of Tewkesbury Camerata and works with The People’s Show Choirs, combining high musical standards with an engaging and inclusive approach to music-making. Mark is the National Coordinator (UK) for the European Association for Music in Schools (EAS) and currently serves as Honorary Treasurer of the Music Teachers’ Association (UK).

He is a sought-after presenter at national and international conferences, delivering keynote presentations and professional development for organisations including the International Conference on Music Education in Riga, Music Mark, Encore Enterprises and Hampshire Music Service. His presentations have been described as “engaged, chatty, friendly and erudite”, reflecting his belief that the best professional learning should be practical, thought-provoking and enjoyable.

Alongside his teaching and musical engagements, Mark is a Doctoral Researcher at the University of Reading, investigating how music educators understand their impact on learners and how inclusive pedagogies shape musical engagement and identity.
